good set at a bargain price
This review is for Performance Tool W1173 socket set. The case seems fine. I after traveling through the delivery process there was no jumble when opened. The finish looks good to me. I've spot checked the fit of 8 or 10 sockets and it is good; not loose & not too tight. The sockets are properly snug on the wrench. The ratchet is a bit tight but some WD40 should fix that. The wall thickness looks a bit thin. I wouldn't use them with an impact wrench. But it's a good set and only $14. Many folks, most of us, I'd bet when we are young can't afford an ordinary socket set. This one will probably last a homeowner a lifetime and get a whole lot of work done.

Wow this thing is junk
Given the low price on this item, you probably wouldn't be expecting anything too great. That said though, this thing is even junkier than what I expected. First, I'll start with the plastic case. Even when closed all the way and snapped shut, it doesn't stop the sockets from falling out of the holders within the case. So you organize it all nice just like how it's supposed to be, then you snap it shut and move it from point A to point B and when you reopen it, the sockets are all over the place. So, the case is junk. As for the wrench and sockets, they are junk too. You can tell how poorly made they are just by running your fingers over the material. Anyone who works with tools will right away be able to tell this is low quality stuff. Also, a few of the socket sizes aren't very well pressed into the socket itself. It's hit or miss how many sockets have this problem, but there's definitely a few of them in my set. At the end of the day, I bought this because it is small and easily fits in a "general purpose" tool bag that I like to keep that just has "the basics" included in the bag for simple projects. I have a significantly nicer socket set in my outdoor tool box that I would of course go to for the bigger projects.... So this thing technically fits my needs for just a small little socket set that easily fits a general purpose tool bag, but that said this is really cheap stuff. I wouldn't trust the wrench not to give out if you put too much torque on it and the overall quality as a whole leaves a lot to be desired. If you're looking for something small, easy and cheap to just have for "around the house" easy stuff than I suppose this is decent for that - but it is a low quality set and I would not trust it for anything beyond elementary level work.

Perfect small set
It is exactly as pictured. Nice little set for the rare occasions I need a different size from what I have.

Nice sockets, poor ratchet
This metal socket set is good except the ratchet slips on use. I grew up helping my daddy in his shop and he taught me how to use his classic tools from Sears and the vendor who came around to sell him tools at his shop. To go from the Cadillac of ratchets to this set is tough...But my daddy's tools were stolen by a bad contractor, so I'm replacing them as I can. I needed a ratchet to work on my wheelchair so I got this set. There's quite an array of sockets, but darn it, the plastic mechanism on the ratchet slips. So for that reason, I'm deducting two stars.I was able to work on my wheelchair by holding onto the back plastic on the ratchet. I banged up my fingers in the process and they're still sore, darn it.The adage of, you get what you pay for holds true. This socket set retails for under $21.
