Question 1

Does it stop the pesky RED squirrel? They are lighter in weight and smarter than the grey squirrels.

No.   This feeder is not squirrel proof.  Pole mounting will not work either.  They will climb the pole.  Red squirrels like to sit on the on the ledge and eat (lifting their rear leg to open the spring loaded hatch)while the larger squirrels prefer to hang upside down from the roof.

The only thing that keeps squirrels out of this feeder is my dog🤣

Question 2

Where can I find a replacement for the screw and bolt that fit on the cardinal that hold the roof shut?

Question 3

I can't get the hanger to attach...what am I doing wrong?

If you mean the hanger/hook, there are two holes on the left of the feeder as you face the front and one on the right. One end of the hanger/hook has extra length and extra squarish turns. First feed that end into the top hole on the left. Push it just past the first turn, then keep feeding it and manipulating/turning it until you have the end coming out the bottom hole so that the end sticks out maybe 1/2 inch. Then slip the other end directly into the single hole on the right. As you are doing the left side, the hanger/hook may be at the front of the feeder, not at the top but as you feed it into the lower hole, it will turn to the top. There should be about 1/2 inch sticking out on the left and on the right, 1/2 inch showing inside. Hope this helps (I thought mine came assembled, but maybe not as I seem to remember having to figure this out!)

Question 4

Does the roof just lift off or does it lock down in some way?

The cap the weather vane is sitting on is a lock. The top (roof) completely comes off for filling. The cap turns and locks it into place.
