Q: Is this the Stratosphere II?

http://www.xikar.com/products/lighters/stratosphere/I checked the website and it says that it is the stratosphete II version. At least that's what the page title said & picture looks exactly like the one i have (hunter green) anyway it's an excellent butane lighter

Q: What is the difference between this lighter and the xikar high altitude lighter, which costs $18.99?

I believe they are the same. If you can get the model number (they start with 520 and vary by color) that may help you. You may also want to check the Xikar website and see if they list different lighters in this category.

Q: My lighter now shoots flames 1 foot tall and the gas continues to run after i let go. unsafe. how do i use the warranty?

Mail the registration card or fill it out online and mail the lighter back to xikar they will honor the warranty . I've sent 2 back in the last five years and had no problems at all . I wouldn't own any other brand of lighter a lifetime warranty is just unheard of!

Q: Is the slider considered a torch lighter ?

It’s probably not considered a torch lighter. It’s a windproof but has a pretty high flame and the flame is like the torch lighter. I’ve not had a torch lighter but the flame on those I would think may be higher.
