Working great
My 15 year old AC had an old kickstarter from a defunct brand when I moved in. When the capacitor went bad I also replaced the kickstarter with this one. Everything working great now, compressor is quieter now.

Easy fix
My Florida Heat Pump (now owned by Bosch) compressor was failing to start when the system commanded it to start. It would hum for about 5 seconds and then time out. This cycle would repeat over and over, sometimes starting and sometimes the system seemed to quit trying (after about ten minutes and 50 or so failed starts of the compressor). Anyway, this piggy back capacitor is simply added in parallel to the existing capacitor and it works like a champ. Two things to note: (1) capacitors can zap you even when you've removed the 220Vac at the breaker...you must discharge the existing capacitor or you'll become the discharge path and that's gonna hurt... and (2) it's possible you just need to replace your existing capacitor and this boost is unnecessary. If your compressor is older and a capacitor swap didn't fix your problem, this is the easy button you were hoping for. As for how long this bandaid fix will last, I dunno, but, at the price of a new compressor, this thing will pay for itself in about a month or two.
