Safety features and heat

I bought two of these little heaters. Love them both. Good for a room that does not have good heating. Easy to set up, good size, good safety features. I also love the fact that they have a built-in humidifier.

Reliable and Functional Workhorse With a Few Quirks

I did quite a lot of looking around and reading of product reviews before I came to this choice. I believe I chose wisely!I bought this heater for supplementing my oil furnace driven baseboard heat. My house is a 1000 sq. ft. open loft style with cathedral ceilings so it has lots of open air space. I knew I would need something that could belt out heat well and evenly. I settled on this one mainly because of the added humidifier and oscillation capability since most others didn't have those features. This heater does the trick for my situation. I keep my thermostat at a solid 60F so it doesn't turn on the furnace as often. I use this heater to bring that up to about 64-68 (I don't mind it a little cooler). Usually I will have it run downstairs with oscillation and humidifier on and set it to 64-68 (depending on different factors). So far it has been very successful at keeping the downstairs area at around that temp. We haven't hit any severe cold snaps in NY yet, but as of Nov 2014 we have had a few below 20's and it did fine keeping up during those dates too. It keeps the downstairs a pretty solid temperature, and usually the upstairs area (its a master bedroom loft) will stay about 2 degrees warmer than downstairs. This is after I seal and throw plastic on all of the windows for the winter. I imagine this wouldn't work quite as well if I hadn't done that, but I digress. The heater shifts from high, to low, to just fan as needed depending on the internal thermostat. This is indicated by the lights. I have only run it on auto so far and haven't seen any need to put it on solid high or low as it regulates itself quite well. The default auto temp is 68F and can be easily changed up or down anytime. When it said "oscillating" I thought that it meant that the whole unit was on a turntable that turned. However, it is simply the inner slots inside where the heat comes out that swivel back and forth. This is a smarter design as it is far less mechanical and saves more energy not turning the weight of the whole unit. The oscillation covers about a 60 degree arc so it spreads the heat decently at least in one direction. The oscillating slots are made of a high temp polymer (plastic) which feels weird as you think it may melt them or denature the polymer with enough time, but they do fine right now.The humidifier functions pretty well. When on it shoots a solid jet of cool mist about a foot above the unit. There is a tiny sliding door that you can use to close off the hole where the mist comes out which I guess is to possibly regulate the mist a little, but all in all seems kind of pointless. Maybe to prevent dust and such from getting in when it's off I guess? There's a pleasant blue light that illuminates the back reservoir and bottle. I like it, but I know some people are sticklers for random L.E.D. lights. The back reservoir's design is one of the few things I don't like about this unit. It's simply a tiny reservoir with the misting unit built into it. It hangs off the back of the unit via a plastic pipe that sends the mist into the unit. The connection is solid and I haven't had it leak on me from there, but when you put a 3 liter bottle on the back full of water like I have set up, it seems like it's a lot of weight to have on top of the reservoir for it to be just connected by the pipe. I wish there was some other supporting structure to prevent the pipe from flexing backwards slightly under the weight. It has two included adapters for different sized bottles. I use the normal soda bottle size adapter. A full 3 liter bottle of water lasts about a day to a day and a half if constantly on. It does a nice job at supplementing my PureGuardian 4500 humidifier. My house is all wood so humidity is important to me.The castors on the bottom allow for an easy glide across the floor. Almost too easy sometimes as I often will put it on a small wooden side table and the slightest push or pull can bring it very close to the edge. Castor locks would have been appreciated. The general construction and design are fine. Cord is plenty long. Included remote controller works fine and comes with battery. The toggle buttons feel a little cheap and sometimes you have to push like you mean it to turn something on or off (with exception to the unit power button which has actual on/off positions). The unit also has a built in filter for the back so it does clean the air a bit at least.Possible limiting factors:- The fan noise is definitely noticeable when on high setting so don't expect a "whisper quiet" unit. I don't mind the white noise.- The humidifier reservoir itself can become over full sometimes and leak onto the floor, but if you pay attention to it there shouldn't be a problem. It's not leaking from the pipe itself, just spilling over as it were.- The oscillation motor can sometimes emit a clicking or creaking noise which is quite evident. I don't know if that's normal or if it's just a small flaw of my unit, but it's not enough to bug me. You can always shut it off.- This unit has a 1500W max draw which means it does need a dedicated circuit. That basically means that if you have this plugged in and use another appliance on the same circuit (such as from an outlet on the same wall) it will kick your breaker off or possibly fry something. So just pay attention to what and where you're plugging things in when in use. I haven't gotten a solid cycle of bills to see how well this "saves" on energy, but I'm really using it more so I spend a little more on electricity than fuel/oil.-This unit isn't as ascetically pleasing as some of the other units I have seen, especially the LifeSmart infrared heaters. The button array and display are reminiscent of an appliance from the seventies. The wood stain would look a little better darker I think. I have seen a similar wattage LifeSmart heaters that also worked very well and looked a lot better. So if you care about the design and color of your furnishings you may opt for the LifeSmart, but you'll miss out on the extra functionality of this unit with the humidifier and oscillator.I will update as I use this in more situations and know what the final damage is from its use in my electric bills. Stay warm!*Update 12/22/14*Have gotten two bills since purchasing. Both where about 50$ more than normal, but that's also taking into account the energy used by the supplementing oil furnace/boiler. My oil tank was at 7/8 and now is about 5/8 which is a much slower decrease than last year already (even though it's started out colder this year so far) This is with the unit set on auto for pretty much 24/7 unless it's a clear sunny day (passive solar heating does wonders in my house) All in all it will definitely prevent me from having to refill my oil tank halfway through the winter like last year so it's still a positive purchase for my situation. Hope this helps, I'll keep posting on it.*Update 2/22/14*Heater is still running fine and is still on pretty much 24/7. We have gotten some significant cold snaps here in NY (consistently below 0F w/ wind chill) and this heater performed okay at keeping the temp in my house above 60F (what my thermostat is set to). The heater can only work as good as my insulating job and it's doing how I thought it would for the situation. During the coldest colds my furnace was still kicking on every so often, but only the lower part of the house since it is very large and open. The loft still stayed 2-4 degrees warmer than the rest so it's performing in that aspect. I have become a little more disappointed with the humidifier attachment. It now leaks out the bottom of the unit causing me to have to put rags down to soak up the resulting water. I think this is because of splash droplets from the ultrasonic disc falling through the fan hole, but haven't been able to pinpoint it. The humidifier still works fine as long as it's kept de-calcified, but the leaking is a little irking because of how much more this unit was than the one w/out the humidifier on it. If I can't stop the leak, then I'm dropping this from 4 stars to 3 on my next update. Ta ta for now.

Excellent Cust. Service for Replace/Repair

I have two of these products, one a standard and the second a Dr Heater Elite w/humidifier. Both models are excellent purchases, I would recommend these to anyone looking for a small, affordable space heater that puts out a decent amount of heat.My house is rather old (almost 110 yrs) and my Dr Heater Elite model experienced problems with a loose outlet that I have since repaired. The outlet and the plug didn't sit as tightly as they should and there were arcing issues and the units cord became damaged.Dr Heater Cust service was easy to contact via the Amazon app, provided excellent service, got a replacement part to me without any issue and sent a link to a video detailing how to make the replacement. The product works great and the customer service actually provides customer service, I and my family are immensely happy with the purchases.

Must buy. I put it to the test, please read before buying.

Well you scrolled for a review so here it is, the heater point blank is just really good. I got this heater because of a mistake, buying a bathroom heater that was greatly priced but it didn't produce anywhere NEAR the same heat this heater does.I'll admit when opening the box, it was really small, especially compared to other heaters we have in the house right now, but after a good few cold weeks, size definitally doesn't matter. The humidifier is good. Not really out of the way amazing, not extremely effective, but it works and is there. Somehow this system exists and Dr. Heater thought it was great, and for someone who gets really scratchy and irritable at night when it's uncomfortably hot and dry. Humidity is your best friend. And the fact you don't even need the stock bottle is even better. I have a big smart water bottle back there 😂. The user control is truly present on this heater. Luxury heater for sure. If you Need a humidifier, I'd say keep the one you have and have this one as well if you feel like it doesn't produce enough humidity. All depends on how you feel. Other then that I agree with the Comments, pretty useless other then that, that's why they let you take the thing off 😂😂😂. BTW there are replacement pieces for the humidifier water gasket inside, Dr. Heater cares about you, The humidifier isn't halfed ass, just is not THAT necessary. This thing blows out hot air very well, even in uninsulated areas. When the cold is to much, the oscillation is a amazing feature, seriously amazing, only problem with it is there's a timer on it that isn't as long as you would want it to be if your really cold.It does start up and warm up fast. It's very easy to repair, the backside comes loose with just a screw driver, and BOOM fan, fuses, whatever is needed, is all there, so much user comfort and self maintence is very much present.I have a very good example of a heater that doesn't care for user needs. I stripped it and all, should not be necessary to remove as many screws as I had to.To add, this company doesn't seem that big, but the added full warranty on labor and parts is nice as well. If you look at warranties for other heaters, they can be janky and only provide warranty on parts.Durability wise it seems to hold up. It has knockover protection. I been kicking this thing around and letting it sit right in the coldest areas for hours, then turning it on. Playing with the vent Jaws that oscillate, and I mean it's all sturdy...So all in all, for a heater at this price, I'd say it's a really above average heater. Very acceptable as a staple heater or a kitchen room heater. It will not heat up a really large area (the pictures were taken in my front living room, and there's a decently sized den that's uninsulated that the heater keeps warm) which I'm sure is already obvious. Don't let the size fool you. If you want somthing more durable or hotter, you gotta go with heaters in the 200 buck range with copper fuses. They're also alot bigger. Other then that, this is a solid heater across the board worth the buy, but if your house is on the bigger side, this is an OK heater, and OK isn't that great in the winter when you feel it.Be wise Amazon shoppers, best of luck!
