The bethesda game of 3D printing
Assembly is straightforward, instructions are clear. This is not my first 3d printer though, so for the experience might be different for others. Customisation options are plentiful and in some cases unfortunately almost mandatory. Mine never had the chance, but the tool head cover tends to self-destruct by detaching during a print. The build plate is as flat as a half pipe, sporting a topography similar to the Mariana Trench all along the Y axis right in the middle with a 0.443mm difference between the highest and lowest points of a multiple times back to back to back quad gantry leveled heat soaked bed. After reflashing the emmc chip with mainline klipper the preparation time takes less than half as long as it took with the original firmware. I thoroughly enjoy the whole "Owning a 3D printer helps solving the issues you wouldn't have if you never bought one in the first place" thing though, so if you need a printer for a project, instead of the printer itself being a project is not your goal, i wouldn't recommend. Otherwise, hack away on it, it takes it well and the community is decent sized so it's easy to find stls for replacement or upgrade parts.

Excellent Large Format Printer
An excellent large bed printer which has worked flawlessly since receiving the revised hot end (now shipping with all printers).Print after successful print. Very impressed. The mainboard fan is noisy, but easily quietened and if you want to tinker and upgrade there are lots of options.Mine is currently still stock but planning on some upgrades to improve on the all ready excellent base.100% recommend this printer, just take your time and read the Facebook group for hints and tips to get the best out of it.

Sovol SV08 Do Not Buy!
I can’t even begin to make it clear enough how very disappointed I am with this printer. After 5 full days attempting to set this SV08 up to print consistently and reliably I am ready to simply give up with it. I’ve worked for years with Prusa Mk3s, Raise 3D Pro 2 Plus, and Ender machines, and all I can say is this is the very worst printer I’ve had the misfortune to spend good money on. My only advice is Do Not Buy The Sovol SV 08!The thing arrived damaged with the extruder fan snapped clean off, but having touched base with Sovol support, and having them promise to send me one (within 2 weeks from China!), I decided to give the thing the benefit of the doubt and continue to build and commission the thing.. the broken fan was easily fixed with a drop of superglue in the meantime. However, after 5 days constant attention, and following all advice and guidance from Sovol support, you simply cannot get this machine to maintain a consistent Z-height, and as a consequence it’s impossible to achieve repeatable, consistent prints. The bed cannot be made level, even with mesh bed levelling, the nozzles cannot withstand the kind of temperatures needed to print PETG, the machine restarts and factory resets randomly, there is zero accuracy anywhere across the bed and the bed probe is next to useless and unbelievably inaccurate! Really, a total disaster.I also, fool that I am, bought the enclosure.I will contact Amazon for a refund, but I’ll be damned if I’m spending any more time working on this thing, so I will have to be returned assembled, because I simply cannot spend more hours dissembling the thing. And I now discover I can’t even purchase replacement nozzles in the UK.Really, Sovol, bad, bad job here. Companies cannot keep on accepting hard-earned cash for machines that simply aren’t fit for purpose!

Making Prints Stick
Have owned printer for couple of years now. Here's my two pennys worth:PROS: Dual z axis for greater stability; I was never a fan of the single lead screw "cantilever" type that always struck me as being a bad design. Direct extruder; more reliable and best for the softer filaments. Decent sized build plate and height. Glass build plate for ease of print removal and bed flatness. Electronics aesthetically tucked away underneath build plate for the smallest footprint. Filament reel mounted on top of printer, again for small footprint. As far as I know no other manufacturer has all these features in one product. Fairly easy to set up. Good value for money.CONS: Being my first printer, the build plate not as flat as I would have expected. The glass was flat, but the inderlying heated bed was not so flat, so when attached with the clips it caused a slight sagging in the middle of the plate. I believe most other printers have this problem too. Was under the impression that print files could be transfered over USB but this was not the case. SD card only option. Minor inconvenience in the end. The filament runout detector is useless, it caused too much drag and bending of the filament. I just disconnected it. Noise levels reasonable but would have been nice to have it quieter since the printer sits right next to my PC.Probably the biggest problem that most people have, regardless of the printer manufacturer, is getting those first few layers to stick. Because the build plate was not as flat as I had expected, I thought this was the problem. Being a perfectionist, I spent a lot of time trying to get it perfectly flat by twiddling the four levelling knobs. In the end I had to settle on a compromise flatness, although it was pretty good. This did not help at all with the sticking problem. I then spent a lot of time trying to level the bed and getting the correct gap between the nozzle and bed using the paper method. This also did not solve the problem. Some prints would stick, others would not. Even thoroughly degreasing with isopropyl alcohol barely helped. About to give up in sheer frustration and return the printer blaming it on the not perfectly flat bed, I found the solution. PVA glue. I know there are dedicated spray glues out there but some reports indicated they were hit and miss and they cost.So the whole frustrating problem of not having prints stick that ruins your enjoyment of the printer to the point that you feel like throwing the whole thing in the bin, can be cured with any PVA glue. Flattening the bed and getting it level accounts for only about 10% of the problem. Using the PVA makes the flattening and levelling process much more forgiving.Mix some PVA glue with water, roughly 1 part PVA to 10 parts water so that it looks and feels like low fat milk. On an unheated bed, brush the solution onto the plate, only necessary in the area that the print will be laid down. The wash might look a little uneven in terms of consistency of coverage but as long as the area is wetted it'll be fine. Turn on bed heat and the PVA wash will quickly dry out to an even sheen resulting in a very slight tacky feel. Print. When finished and cooled, the print is cracked off in the usual ways. If a little stuck, wash with water which will soften the PVA at the edges and better allow it to be removed. A single PVA wash can be used for several prints. If you want a clean bed, wash with water. Using this method I've never had any print sticking problems at all, like ever. It's turned use of this printer ( and I suspect others ) from a pain to a joy.
